Mad Science Rocket Camp

Birds, kites, planes and rockets, if it flies in, with or through the air it will be included in this camp as we investigate different types of aerodynamics. All week long, campers will build various flying machines, explore space and apply Newton’s Laws of motion as we take daily flights of discovery!

Awesome Takehomes!
At other camps the most exciting things the kids are taking home could involve pasta stuck to paper. Things are different at Mad Science with kite and rocket kits, telescopes, comet balls, flying UFOs and more!

Daily Themes

The Milky Way

What’s in the night sky and how do we know what's up there? Campers will explore the constellations, learn about celestial navigation and build their own planisphere and comet ball while discovering the wonders of the Milky Way.

The “Wright” Stuff

Campers will explore the fundamentals of aerodynamics in this hands-on program about how things fly. From the basic principles of flight to building airplanes, testing them in wind tunnels, to hovercraft and balloon copter building, children will understand what makes things fly and how different types of aircraft work. Campers will take home various paper airplane designs, UFO flyers and mini slingers.

Newton’s Loco-Motion

Sir Isaac Newton was very curious about how things move. Discover Newton's Laws of Motion and something called inertia during this day devoted to motion. Campers will experiment to learn how inertia works and how gravity is a physical force that keeps all objects "stuck" to the Earth. Make your own refracting telescope!

Up, Up & Away

This day we will explore the role that wind and the movement of air plays on simple flying devices such as kites, hot air balloons and parachutes. Campers will experiment with solar bags, parachutes, build their own kites and take parachutists home during this hands-on look at early flight.

Rockin’ Rockets

Campers will learn the fundamentals of rocketry throughout this day including the parts of a rocket, the stages of flight and how Newton's third law applies to a rocket traveling to space. The campers will have a “blast” as they build their own model rockets and experiment with water and stomp rockets during this day filled with hands-on “out of this world” activities.

Order of activities may vary
